The Sassoon family, once described as "unmotivated to be pioneers," did not rush to seize opportunities or strive to be the first in business, but always managed to stay ahead of others. As their business grew, they became one of the wealthiest Jewish families in the world. David Sassoon, who claimed to be a descendant of King David, was born in Iraq and was originally wealthy and well-known in the area. However, he was forced to flee to Mumbai after offending those in power. He then formed a business with his eight sons, relying on the trades of opium and cotton across two major markets of India and China, creating a grand commercial empire. With great wealth, the descendants of the Sassoon family made friends with the powerful. They succeeded in investments, and expanded their influence throughout the world. The descendants also excelled in different fields such as politics, business, and culture. But later, due to the fact that the descendants did not marry or have children, the family's headcount continued to shrink, and its development could not sustain. By delving into the story of the Sassoon family, not only can we see the interaction between family inheritance and business ups and downs, but also grasp how commercial power influences the development of modern China and the world.

Immortal crane and divine pine needles, deep-fried chicken testicle cakes, gold coin chicken (which isn’t really chicken)... These dishes are probably not even eaten by our parents' generation, but they are important parts of our Cantonese culinary heritage. Cantonese cuisine seems to be crude and big in portion sizes, but it is actually profound, exquisite, and very specific on the ingredients and cooking techniques. Cantonese people "never get tired of delicacy, and never get tired of fineness". Top-notch Cantonese cuisine is complicated and delicate. Though it loooks unremarkable, it often takes a whole day to make, and the control of heat must be precise for the best results. Not even a single mistake is allowed for the optimal taste of each ingredient to come through. Hong Kong's Cantonese cuisine comes from Shunde, Guangzhou and other places. Encompassing masterful craftsmanship and ingenious improvements of later generations, it has transformed into a series of dishes that are beyond imagination. However, many of them have to be painstakingly made. With the increasingly rapid pace of society, these flavors are gradually disappearing, and they do not even exist in our memory. Cantonese cuisine is about the exquisite taste and meticulous craftsmanship. Food critic Agnes Chee Yan-wei has tasted the most exquisite dishes all through the years. She has also consulted many famous chefs to understand the origin of each dish. With this book, she documents these dishes, as well as the ingredients and cooking techniques commonly used in Cantonese cuisine, and interviews with many famous chefs, in order to trace the origin of the flavors that have disappeared or are about to disappear, leaving valuable records.

2011 marked the 30th anniversary of the founding of the University of Macau, and in 2013, the Hengqin campus of the University of Macau was officially completed and put into use. The current president of the University of Macau, Professor Zhao Wei, proposed a creative idea: to compile a commemorative collection of essays for the 30th anniversary, inviting each former president to write a piece to review the university's development over the past 30 years and their personal experiences. Although the writing styles of the presidents are different and their views may vary, even on the same event, their views are equally valid and respected. But it helps retain the original flavor and support freedom of having an opinion, while providing readers with credible historical materials. Reading the personal experiences of the presidents is like flipping through the extraordinary years of the University of Macau. Although it has gone through twists and turns, its firm steps forward are like the sound of footsteps in an empty valley, ringing and shaking, urging people to move forward. The book is trilingual in Chinese, Portuguese, and English, and is richly illustrated.
