In this book, the author went through memorabilia passed down for generations, to shed light on the life of Hong Kong people during the three years and eight months of Japanese occupation. In the late autumn of 1938, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and other places were occupied by Japan one by one, and the Japanese army repeatedly provoked China on the border. The shadow of war had enveloped Hong Kong, and the war was about to break out. On December 6, 1941, Hong Kong people were enjoying the weekend. Happy Valley was crowded with citizens watching horse racing, and markets was filled with people singing and dancing. However, two days later, the Japanese army launched a massive attack on Hong Kong. After 18 days of fierce fighting, Hong Kong was lost, and the citizens began a sorrowful life under the iron hooves of the Japanese army. Fast forward to 70 years later, Hong Kong has long become an international metropolis and an Asian financial center, but this difficult period is still engraved in the hearts of the older generation of citizens, and it is difficult to erase. This book uses more than 100 rare memorabilia of the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong, including rental bills, electricity bills, water bills, land tax bills, property tax bills, insurance vault receipts, dividend bills, horse tickets, horse plates, tram tickets, bus tickets, ship tickets, postcards, universal stamps, and newspaper advertisements, supplemented by explanations in contexts, hoping to let readers have a deep understanding of the life of Hong Kong people under Japanese occupation. Let’s remember this difficult period that the older generation cannot forget.

"The so-called 'great doctor' is not about divine skills or fame, but about sincerity: 'precision' is the study of medical skills and knowledge, and 'sincerity' is the wholehearted dedication to one's profession and responsibilities." – Gabriel Matthew Leung. Since its establishment 130 years ago, the University of Hong Kong's medical school has produced many famous doctors and trained over a thousand graduates each year to serve the society. This book commemorates the 130th anniversary of the medical school, documenting the establishment of the medical school's predecessor, the Hong Kong College of Chinese Medicine, and the hardships and steady development of the medical school in its early days. It also includes accounts on the many "great doctors" and hospitals that have been closely related to the medical school and society as a whole for over a hundred years, as well as 18 essays by famous writers on their relationship with the medical school. The University of Hong Kong's medical school has witnessed the spread of Western medicine and medical services in Hong Kong, as well as the cultural exchanges, social development and major changes in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong cinema has always been full of vitality. Not only does it incorporate foreign elements, but also integrates them into local folklore, forming a unique culture that stands out in the international movie scene. This book starts with 23 essays, focusing on Hong Kong cinema from the 1950s to the 1970s, examining its development from ethical romance to psychological explorations, from traditional realism to modern lyricism. By reviewing the literary works of many outstanding filmmakers such as Wu Hui, Cheng Gang, Li Tie, Li Chenfeng, Zuo Ji, Chu Yuan, Tang Shuxuan, and Chen Yunwen, it explores the artistic space and human landscape they created for Hong Kong cinema over the past 30 years. The author of this book does not want to idealize all things old with a nostalgic attitude, but hopes to clarify some misunderstandings that have accumulated over the past half century due to prejudice or lack of discourse under conventional constraints. He outlines the uniqueness of Hong Kong cinema. In this way, it highlights the efforts of several generations of filmmakers to establish local culture, and pays sincere tribute to their endless creativity over the years.

This book is a collection of the author's experience of growing up in public housing estate many years ago. Not only is it a record of Hong Kong’s unique food culture, but also a critique of the lack of personality in the increasingly commercialized food scene of the city. The book is divided into five chapters: tea restaurants, dai pai dong, wet markets, snack shops and tea houses. Each chapter focuses on the characteristic food of the city, such as Hong Kong style coffee, milk tea, toast, rice noodle rolls, roasted meat, ribbon rice noodles, and egg tarts. Dr. Siu promotes Hong Kong's food culture through his writing. While we savor the food stories, it also deepens our love for the local culture.
