In March 2020, a group of wild Asian elephants called the "Short Nose Family" set out from the Mengyangzi Nature Reserve in Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve, Yunnan, and headed north. They walked out of their traditional habitat on April 16, 2021, and after nearly four months, on August 8, they began their journey south under human guidance, eventually returning to their original habitat. The "Short Nose Family" of Asian elephants traveled through Puer, Yuxi, Honghe Prefecture, Kunming, and other places, covering a distance of more than 1,300 kilometers. Due to the charm of the wild elephant herd itself, the interaction between the elephant herd and humans during the journey, and the discussion of the "human-elephant relationship," it has been continuously followed on social media and mainstream media at home and abroad, and is regarded as a vivid example of China's wildlife protection and biodiversity conservation, attracting worldwide attention. This book is jointly created by publishers, elephant research experts, elephant monitoring and protection workers, photographers, and other professionals from Hong Kong and Yunnan, and is published by Hong Kong Joint Publishing Co., Ltd. and Yunnan Education Press. This book, adapted from the author's 2017 doctoral thesis, "A Study on the Origin of the Zhu Ming Royal Family in the Late Ming and Early Qing Dynasties," meticulously examines the historical materials related to the Zhu Ming royal family. Divided into six chapters, the book delves into the population estimation, the impact on the royal family after entering the Qing, the issue of the royal family's martyrdom, the resistance to and surrender to the Qing, the life of the hidden royal family, and the choice of the new regime after entering the Qing.
