* The original book is out of print. This publication is based on the 1987 version and reproduces the complete appearance of the novel, which is of great value. * This version of the book was revised by the author himself and is a longer novel than his first novel, "Dead end alley," which was written in the early post-World War II period. It depicts the different experiences of the lower-class characters, including writer Gao Huai, primary school teacher Luo Jian, unemployed veteran Du Quan, briber Mo Lun, and the ambiguous background of the young girl Bai Mei. However, they all share a common fate - poverty. They rely on each other in the post-war predicament and move towards an unknown future together. The plot is intricate and compact, the suspense is layered, and the characters shed tears and blood for their lives, which is enough to move people's hearts. The novel is also recognized as a "symbol of the maturity of Hong Kong literature." The novel went through several twists and turns from publication to publication. It was serialized in the Hwa Shiang Pao daily news in 1948, but the publication was stopped due to personnel changes in the newspaper. At the same time, it experienced changes in publishers. In order to facilitate sales to other places, the title and the "Prologue" were deleted and revised. Therefore, this book is based on the 1987 version revised by the author and is republished, retaining the original "Prologue" of the novel and with an afterword of the first edition, allowing readers to see the complete appearance of the novel. Is poverty the beginning or the end of tragedy? Read on to find out!

On a hot summer day, drink a homemade elderflower champagne; as autumn approaches, make a blue cheese boneless chicken thigh in the oven; if you feel troubled, have a roasted lamb leg to escape the troubles in life; if you want to travel, make Taiyang Bing that takes you to Taiwan right away; after a busy day of work, make bread and butter pudding to comfort yourself... The door of my kitchen leading to the garden is always open. In addition to cooking and writing, I spend my time in this small space. The first thing I do every morning is to inspect the flowers, plants, and fruits, to see which one has bloomed, which one has fruited, or to pick the ripe fruits. Starting the day like this is full of anticipation and small pleasures.

"A Memoir of Wesley" is an important derivative work of Ni Kuang's novel. Dr. Yeh Lee-hwa based on the original 145 novels by Ni Kuang and wrote and rewrote a series of new and old science fiction stories in Wesley’s style, answering many mysteries hidden in the original works, and connecting the protagonist's life at different phases. Ni Kuang himself gave this series high praise, "I believe that this set of books will also be passed down as a legend in the history of writing. There has never been another author who can supplement the original author's stories so well, and extend it so well!" In the vast Taklimakan Desert, Wesley tries to find the ancient tomb treasure buried for thousands of years; in the mysterious Saturn ring, Wen Bao-yu experiences a strange time and space journey; on the edge of the Antarctic Ocean's frozen sea, the Great King of Heaven plans to cool the earth on his own. Three seemingly unrelated incidents finally converge at the same time...
