Escape from death

On the evening of March 17, 2006, tragedy struck in the pedestrian tunnel of Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. Sin Ka-keung and Tsang Kwok-hang, two police officers, were ambushed by a lone assailant. Sadly, only Sin Ka-keung survived, but not without sustaining severe injuries. Gunshots left him with serious wounds to his cheek and calf, leading to a prolonged hospitalization in the intensive care unit. Countless surgeries, medications, and excruciating pain became a constant part of his life. The haunting memories of the incident replayed in his mind every night. From that moment on, a promising young police officer turned into a permanent patient, grappling with physical and mental trauma. The pain was so unbearable that he couldn't bear to look at himself in the mirror or take photographs. The past was too painful to confront. With the support of family, friends, fellow police officers, and medical staff, Jiafei gradually conquered his inner demons. He meticulously documented his recovery journey during his hospital stay, capturing every word, tear, and stroke of pain.
