Xia Er Guan Zhen: A Collection of Historical Materials on Hong Kong History
"Xia Er Guan Zhen" was the first Chinese newspaper in Hong Kong, published in August 1853 by Yinghua Academy. It covered a wide range of topics including Western civilization, science, technology, politics, literature, history, medicine, geography, chemistry, zoology, and global news and advertisements. With a circulation of 3,000 copies, it was distributed to ports in Guangdong, Xiamen, and Shanghai, with Japanese visitors buying it in Hong Kong. Operating for nearly three years, it published 32 issues before ending in May 1856.
