Once in a Millennium, Master Ma Zeng

The author, Peng Li, a poet, took on the challenge of portraying the life of Cantonese opera figure Ma Shizeng, despite not speaking Cantonese or being familiar with him. Drawing from material provided by Ma Dingsheng, the author created the character "Bronze Pea," embodying innovation, dedication to Chinese culture, and commitment to the nation's cultural renaissance. The narrative is enriched by various perspectives, including recollections from Ma Shizeng's contemporary, Lin Yu, aged one hundred. Red Line Woman's tribute to Ma Shizeng underscores his unwavering love for the country and wholehearted dedication to Cantonese opera, destined to endure for generations.
