It is concerning that many individuals with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) experience their first onset during childhood or adolescence. This issue should not be overlooked. The physical symptoms of GAD are often misinterpreted as organ-related ailments like irritable bowel syndrome, leading to unnecessary medical examinations and potentially long-term misuse of medication. Unfortunately, a survey indicates that both the general public and healthcare professionals in Hong Kong lack sufficient awareness regarding GAD, its appropriate treatment, and prevention methods. Consequently, patients are not receiving the necessary care they require.
