Dr. Huang Lison's memoir commences with his formative years in Shantou, followed by his academic journey through primary, secondary, and university education in Hong Kong. Subsequently, amidst the perils of the Japanese siege, he hastily made his way to the wartime capital of Chongqing, and eventually embarked on a journey to Oxford, England via India for advanced studies. His academic pursuits then led him to the United States, where he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Chicago. The trajectory of his career evolves through distinct stages: a decade of teaching in Singapore and another in Kuala Lumpur. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, he made significant contributions to the field of free radical chemistry, which continue to resonate today. Subsequently, he served as the president of Nanyang University and the University of Hong Kong for a cumulative period of eighteen years, displaying unwavering dedication to strategic planning and operational excellence. Throughout his life, he wholeheartedly devoted himself to the realms of education and academia, persistently and assiduously contributing until his retirement.
