"Having an autistic child means the whole family is autistic." This is a true portrayal of many families with autistic children. Compared to other families, the family of autistic children has to endure extra burden. When the child has no words, the parents have difficulty talking; when the child cries, the parents secretly cry in their hearts; tears and pain lurk behind the door of a home. In these families, the mother always plays the role of a primary caregiver, holding up for the child; while the father may not be present. Becoming a parent is a learning process with lots of ups and downs; becoming a parent of an autistic child is even more of a journey of endurance and testing your faith in life. This book tells the stories of ten fathers and their autistic children, describing the joys and sorrows of this journey. From expecting a newborn, to the panic and helplessness when the child is diagnosed, they need to learn and walk out of the shadow with their loved ones. These stories enable the general public to appreciate the perseverance of autistic relatives and understand the living conditions and difficulties faced by autistic patients and their families in Hong Kong. Opening this book is like opening a door constructed by misunderstanding, fear, and sadness; let the light in and we can see the unique life that is different but also the same as ours, thus building an inclusive world for all of us.

Everyone's life is filled with countless relationships: relationships with society, work, others, family, oneself, emotions, thoughts, and so on. These relationships can be internal or external, far or near; regardless of distance, everything can be summarized as a relationship between a subject and an object. Generally, we attribute our experiences to external objects. We spend our whole lives trying to change others and the environment, but in fact, all experiences come from the projection of the subject itself. The purpose of spiritual practice is to let go of the fixation on trying to change the external environment, to return to the original intent, and to understand and deal with the thoughts and expectations that arise from within. It is not just about meditation and chanting; it is inseparable from life; it is to return to oneself and accept various relationships. Based on an important text for Zen meditation, this book uses simple language to allow readers to practically apply Buddhist practice for the understanding about themselves and others, while cultivating an open, stable, and focused mind to face all the highs and lows of life.

Janet Lau understands that emotions have different levels, and they are like neural reflexes, just trying to convey messages to us and help us walk the path we should take. She saw friends, students, and family members around her affected by emotions, so she wrote this book to tell us that even though she seems happy, she has also experienced many lows. She hopes to help us understand ourselves, accept ourselves, and affirm ourselves through story sharing, yoga, meditation, and reflective exercises. She wants us to accept the "black" and "white" in life, learn to unconditionally care for ourselves and the people, things, and objects around us.
