In 1979, ""Film Biweekly"" introduced the column ""Exposed Characters,"" featuring black and white photos showcasing the daily work of filmmakers. These intimate images capture the filmmakers in moments of calm, seriousness, dedication, and occasional relaxation. The photos are taken on set by patient photographers or in special locations using documentary-style methods, revealing the soul of each subject through the interplay of light and shadow. After over 100 issues, ""Exposed Characters"" was discontinued by September 1983. Some of the photos were later compiled into the rare book ""Filmmakers"" in the 1990s. Now, the author has reorganized these photos, along with her memories and thoughts on each filmmaker, for publication. In these pages, nostalgia for the golden age of Hong Kong cinema shines through. The book captures the impressions and stories of over 100 filmmakers, reshaping the humanistic landscape of Hong Kong cinema and inviting readers to rediscover its glory from diverse perspectives.
