This memoir tells the story of a historian who immigrated from mainland China to Hong Kong. The author, who shares the same age as New China, witnessed the Republic's growth, enduring significant events such as the Great Leap Forward, the Great Famine, and the entire "Cultural Revolution". Graduating high school during this period, he became part of the "old third class" and was later given the opportunity to work as a coal miner. After the resumption of college admissions, he pursued higher education and eventually joined the Second Historical Archives of China, specializing in editing and researching the history of the Republic of China. Eventually, he left his position and moved to Hong Kong to pursue academic work.
