This book is a monograph on the theme of "reading" by Mr. Yu Dianli, a famous Chinese publisher, general manager of the Commercial Press, and Assyriologist. It answers the three basic questions of what is reading, why read, and how to read, and can be regarded as a "guide" to reading. In Mr. Yu Dianli's view, reading is a responsibility and a faith, because reading makes people human, determines the rise and fall of a country, and even determines the direction of human civilization. This book not only investigates the history of reading, but also describes the attitude to reading and the method of reading on multiple levels, which is very inspiring.

Everyone's life is filled with countless relationships: relationships with society, work, others, family, oneself, emotions, thoughts, and so on. These relationships can be internal or external, far or near; regardless of distance, everything can be summarized as a relationship between a subject and an object. Generally, we attribute our experiences to external objects. We spend our whole lives trying to change others and the environment, but in fact, all experiences come from the projection of the subject itself. The purpose of spiritual practice is to let go of the fixation on trying to change the external environment, to return to the original intent, and to understand and deal with the thoughts and expectations that arise from within. It is not just about meditation and chanting; it is inseparable from life; it is to return to oneself and accept various relationships. Based on an important text for Zen meditation, this book uses simple language to allow readers to practically apply Buddhist practice for the understanding about themselves and others, while cultivating an open, stable, and focused mind to face all the highs and lows of life.

"Han people worshipped marquises. Song people worshipped kings. Ming people worshipped emperors. Confucianism calls them saints. Buddhism calls them Buddhas, Taoism calls them celestial beings." As a figure of the Three Kingdoms period, why did Guan Yu get promoted all the way after his death and become King Guan, who was respected by the people and even the emperor? How much of his story is true and how much is fictional? Is his face really red? What is the significance of his appearance in novels, operas, and even movies? Why do both law enforcers and triad gangs worship him? How did a general become the god of wealth and still sit in restaurants and tea houses today? This book reviews China's most classic "god-making" story from three angles: history, art, and life.
