Ah Shi contemplates the depth of Hongkongers' understanding of their home's history and present. While the 1960s and 70s saw the emergence of a local identity, recent discussions on "local" often lack historical context and may harbor xenophobic sentiments. Evaluating the colonial rule of Hong Kong and its historical connection to China raises significant questions. In 2016, Ah Shi launched the "Every District Has a Story" column on the History Files Facebook page, sharing anecdotes and events from various districts to enrich readers' understanding of Hong Kong's history. The book features sixty historical stories, serving as a window into Hong Kong's past.
