New Stories [Hong Kong Literature and Culture Series of the 1960s]
This book includes four new stories, "The Sinking of the Treasure Chest in Anger", "Meng Jiangnu", "The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl", and "Splitting the Mountain to Save the Mother", which are works serialized in newspapers by the famous Hong Kong writer Lau Yee Cheung in the 1960s. The crying of the Great Wall in "Meng Jiangnu", the meeting of the magpie bridge in "The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl", and the overcoming of all difficulties to save the mother in "Splitting the Mountain to Save the Mother" are adaptations of myths; "The Sinking of the Treasure Chest in Anger" is a story about the famous prostitute Du Shiniang, adapted from classical novels. The four novels have been hidden in old newspapers for years, and are now first collected into a book. The novels retain a wealth of original materials from myths and legends, making a great contribution to the preservation and dissemination of folk literature; it is meaningful for studying the development trajectory of Lau Yee Cheung and Hong Kong literature.
