Hong Kong Baptist Hospital was the first hospital in Hong Kong to advocate holistic healing. It was founded in 1963 as a clinic serving the community in the Shek Kip Mei resettlement area in the 1950s. It has developed into a large-scale private general hospital today, witnessing the development of Hong Kong's changes in medical services and social context over more than 50 years. This book starts with the founding concept of Hong Kong Baptist Hospital, runs through the development of the hospital and Hong Kong's medical services, and elaborates on how the hospital should adjust and change due to social development. It also tells the story of how the hospital transformed from a church hospital that provided medical evangelism to a self-financing private professional hospital. Not only does it review the history of Hong Kong Baptist Hospital over the past 50-plus years, but also provides a new basis for the study of Hong Kong's medical history.
