Notes on Medical Humanities - Seeking Soulmates Beyond the Strings Stories in Medical Humanities
This book delves into the rich legacy of figures like Hippocrates, Bian Que, and Hua Tuo, highlighting their contributions to Western and Chinese medicine. However, amidst heavy workloads and constrained environments, doctor-patient relationships have often become superficial and lacking in unique and emotional communication. This book laments this missed opportunity. It explores the pain, loneliness, fear, despair, and discrimination experienced by patients, asking which specialty should address these challenges. It also emphasizes the importance of care, companionship, hope, trust, and respect between healthcare workers and patients, questioning which specialty should foster these qualities. Drawing from the real-life experiences of two community-rooted family doctors, this book comprises newspaper column articles and medical notes. Through these stories, the book seeks to reflect on the essence of medicine, rekindle the importance of humanities, inspire others, and unite like-minded individuals.
