"The Days of Eating Potatoes" may not be a fully autobiographical work, but it draws from my personal experiences, making it akin to an autobiographical text. Its purpose is to serve as an inspiration, acknowledging the differences between today's Hong Kong society and the 1950s, while recognizing that some young people still face challenges. This book is dedicated to those who have not received the same advantages from their parents or society. "Childhood Memories," written in the 1980s, can be seen as a precursor to "The Days of Eating Potatoes." Reflecting on the past, the hardships endured during the days of eating potatoes pale in comparison to the trials of my childhood. Despite the difficulties, the pursuit of set goals is deemed worthy of sacrifices. I believe many children in Hong Kong may relate to similar experiences from their own childhood. My hope is that this book will instill in them the same determination I had: to persevere in the face of adversity.
